1. WHO WE ARE

Fearprint is a psychological horror film recommendation platform operated from New York, United States. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this policy refer to Fearprint.

If you have questions or concerns about how we handle your data, you can reach us at hello@fearprint.com at any time.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect information in three ways: information you give us directly, information generated by your activity on the platform, and information we derive from that activity.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account information: your email address, name, and password when you register. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.

Quiz responses: your answers to our 15-question fear profile quiz, which are used to build your initial psychological fear profile.

Film reactions: fear ratings (1-10), linger duration, whether you watched alone, and written comments you submit after watching a film.

Aftermath responses: your answers to post-watch questions about how a film affected you emotionally, physically, and psychologically.

Comments: any written text you submit about films on the platform.

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use Fearprint we collect the following behavioral data to improve the accuracy of your fear profile and recommendations:

  • Your fear archetype, trait scores (dread, gore, isolation, paranoia, supernatural, psychological, jump scare, aftermath), and how these evolve over time.
  • Which film pages you view and whether you add films to your queue or watch list.
  • When you add or remove films from your queue, and how long they remain there.
  • Which films you request a Fear Forecast for before watching.
  • Login frequency, used to maintain login streaks.
  • Whether you report watching films alone or with others.

We collect behavioral signals because predicting your psychological response to horror films requires more than a one-time quiz. The more you engage, the more accurate your profile becomes. You can request a copy of all data we hold about you at any time — see Section 7.

2.3 Information Derived From Your Activity

In addition to what we collect directly, we derive additional insights from your activity:

  • A fear archetype and trait profile built from your quiz and evolving behavior.
  • Prediction accuracy scores, calculated after you rate a film, used to improve our recommendation engine.
  • Desensitization signals, which are patterns suggesting your psychological response to specific types of horror is changing over time.

2.4 AI Analysis of Your Comments

Written comments you submit are analyzed by our AI system (see Section 4) to extract psychological signals about how films affect you. This analysis runs in the background and the results are not shown to you — they are used only to improve your fear profile and recommendations.

If you would prefer your comments not be used for AI analysis, you may request this by contacting us at hello@fearprint.com. This will not affect your ability to submit comments.

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:

  • To generate and maintain your personalized fear profile and archetype.
  • To recommend horror films matched to your psychological profile.
  • To generate personalized Fear Forecasts predicting how specific films will affect you.
  • To improve the accuracy of our recommendation engine over time using behavioral signals.
  • To operate the points and achievement system.
  • To enable fear compatibility features for comparing profiles with other users.
  • To maintain your watched list, queue, and reaction history.
  • To display community-level aggregated data on the Fear Index.
  • To operate and improve the platform.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to serve advertisements.

4. AI PROCESSING

Fearprint uses AI systems provided by Anthropic (Claude) to power several features. Specifically, Anthropic's API is used to:

  • Generate your personalized fear profile summary.
  • Generate Fear Forecast predictions for specific films.
  • Analyze Director DNA for film pages.
  • Analyze written comments to extract psychological signals (background only, not shown to you).
  • Generate scene-level fear mapping data for films.

When you use these features, relevant data (such as your trait scores, quiz responses, and written comments) is transmitted to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic processes this data in accordance with their privacy policy and data processing terms.

We do not store raw API responses beyond what is necessary to operate the platform. Generated content such as your profile summary and Fear Forecasts is cached in our database to avoid reprocessing.

You can read Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.

5. WHO WE SHARE YOUR DATA WITH

We share your data only with the following parties, and only to the extent necessary to operate the platform:

  • Supabase: our database and authentication provider. Your account data, profile, reactions, and behavioral signals are stored in Supabase's infrastructure.
  • Anthropic: your quiz responses, trait scores, film data, and written comments are sent to Anthropic's API for AI processing as described in Section 4.
  • TMDB: we use The Movie Database API to retrieve film poster images and metadata. We do not share your personal data with TMDB.
  • Google: if you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us under Google's privacy policy.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose your information if required by law, valid court order, or governmental authority. Where legally permitted, we will attempt to notify you before disclosing.

We do not share your information with any other third parties, including advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies.

6. DATA RETENTION

We retain your account data and fear profile for as long as your account remains active.

If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, including your fear profile, reactions, comments, aftermath responses, and behavioral signals.

Some aggregated and anonymized data derived from your activity — such as community-level film scores on the Fear Index — may be retained after account deletion, as it no longer identifies you personally.

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. If you need help, contact us at hello@fearprint.com.

No method of data transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. COOKIES AND LOCAL STORAGE

Fearprint uses cookies and local storage only to maintain your authentication session and remember your platform preferences.

We do not use advertising cookies or any third-party tracking cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect your ability to stay logged in or use certain features.

10. THIRD-PARTY LINKS

Fearprint may display links to third-party streaming platforms where films are available to watch. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you visit.

11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our platform, legal requirements, or data practices. When we make significant changes, we will display a prominent notice on the platform and, where possible, notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect.
